Aspire recruiting 8,000 swimmers to join their annual swim challenge – will you be one of them?

Aspire, the charity who help give back independence to over 40,000 people paralysed through a spinal cord injury in the UK, have launched their recruitment drive for this year’s annual fundraising challenge – to swim the distance of the English Channel – 22 miles, in 12 weeks, between 11 September and 4 December.

The Aspire Channel Swim is free to enter and people can choose whether they wish to take part as an individual or as part of a team, and can complete the 22-mile challenge at their local swimming pool or anywhere they like at their own pace.

It’s a great swim challenge to keep you fit, get into swimming, have fun with your swim mates and keep you motivated through the Autumn. Swimmers record their progress on an online challenge page which keeps track of where they are on their channel crossing.

Every eight hours, someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury.

Aspire not only provide practical help and assistance to thousands of people living with a spinal cord injury in the UK, but the charity also offers advice, accessible housing and grants to buy equipment such as lightweight wheelchairs and assistive technology, to enable people to use computers regardless of their injury.

Last year the Channel Swim challenge raised £500,000 and Aspire are aiming to smash that in 2017.
