The SWIM GRAND PRIX Portugal is once again hosting a stage of the most challenging open water circuit of the WOWSA UltraMarathon Swim Series. The Lisbon-Cascais Crossing, with a 20km course, recalls the 1906 pioneers who swam in these waters and were welcomed by King Carlos in Cascais. 

The event, which will take place on 21 and 22 September, includes cross-country races of various distances, with starts at some of Portugal’s most stunning beaches: swimgp.com

The longest race, starting at Doca de Belém, is framed by the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a route that crosses the municipalities of Lisbon, Oeiras and Cascais, ending at Praia dos Pescadores, in the charming and picturesque bay of Cascais. 

According to Jorge Pereira, organiser for 3 Iron Sports, this is an opportunity to swim, travel through history, enjoy the local landscape and gastronomy, an unforgettable experience for swimmers and their families. 

“The nomination for ‘Event of the Year’ by WOWSA, placing in the top 10, is international recognition of our trajectory in open water as a quality event and at national level the Portuguese government has awarded us the seal of ‘event of public interest’ which fills us with pride.”

In 2023, 700 swimmers from 32 nations took part, attracted by the uniqueness of swimming in the Tagus estuary and along a stunning coastline that looks like a real postcard.
