Travel Matters, an award-winning independent luxury travel agency in London, is bringing back its unique Wild Swimming and Writing retreat facilitated by actress, writer and Channel swimmer Doon Mackichan for 2022.
The retreat will take place in an impressive Edwardian Lodge on the banks of Loch Tay, Scotland from 29th September to 3rd October 2022, combining creative writing workshops, guided wild swimming and nature immersion to make for a rejuvenating experience.
The agenda includes morning swims in Loch Tay with information on cold water safety and benefits to kick start a creative flow, followed by workshops which explore different forms of writing from journals to stand-up comedy.
Best known for the award-winning ‘Smack the Pony’ and more recently, ‘Plebs’ ‘Toast of London’ and ‘Two Doors Down’, Doon is an actress and writer, as well as a Channel and Arctic swimmer. She is passionate about the benefits of cold water swimming and keen to share this passion with others.
"The idea to run a Swim and Writing retreat was born from a chance meeting on Clapham Common in lockdown. Both Doon and I swim at Tooting Lido but whilst it was shut we found ourselves encouraging other women to join us with cold water immersion and dipping." Says Karen Simmonds of Travel Matters. "The retreat took place last September and was a real success – 17 women from all walks of life, sharing a common interest in the most beautiful picturesque area of Loch Tay, Scotland."
