10 reasons why London’s Dock2Dock swim is so iconic

On Saturday 14 September, swimmers will gather for the chance to swim the iconic Dock2Dock at the London Royal Docks. Here’s the top ten reasons why you need to join them:

1. Safety is priority

One of the things that is evident when you swim the Dock2Dock is the abundance of lifeguards, coaches and safety cover both in and out of the water – all there to support swimmers at all times. Event organisers take safety seriously – and it shows!

2. It’s super friendly!

Everyone who takes part in Dock2Dock is there for a great experience. You don’t get that competitive vibe at this event and there’s a supportive community atmosphere. The focus is on having a go and getting the best out of the experience.

3. Caters to most swim abilities

With five core distances to choose from, you’re bound to find something that suits you: 1.5km, 3km, 5km, 10km and the EPIC 15km.

4. Excellent water quality

The common misconception is that you’re swimming in the River Thames – not true! It’s the Thames estuary, which explains the slightly brackish water. The water at the docks is tested regularly and is consistently rated EXCELLENT by bathing standards.

5. Value for money

London events can be pricey but Dock2Dock ticket prices start from only £30 – and you get loads in your race package! One of the great things is the free pre-event swim the day before the actual event – giving you the chance to acclimatise to the water.

6. Very generous cut-off times

When you swim the Dock2Dock, there’s plenty of space and you don’t feel rushed because the event is about enjoyment and not just speed! Swimmers get plenty of time to complete their swim distance.

7. Tailor your experience

Again, Dock2Dock organisers want you to have the best experience possible so they allow some flexibility. Wetsuit or skins? Mass start or rolling start? The choice is yours.

8. Historic setting

You’ll be swimming in the London Royal Docks, which is steeped in history. This is your chance to swim in the magical urban setting of London’s Royal Docks with its imposing historical cranes lining the docks and Canary Wharf and the O2 looming in the background.
