Ruiz and Ciuró win Oceanman round two in Palamós

Home swimmers claimed victory in the second round of Oceanman last weekend, which took place in Palamós on Spain’s Costa Brava. In the women’s race, Núria Ciuró of Club Natació Sant Andreu managed a convincing win over Jimena Pérez from Madrid and Lucrezia Casu from Italy. Ciuró’s margin was a comfortable four minutes.

However, the men’s race was much closer, with Spanish international swimmer Hector Ruiz stealing the win by just one second from Pol Gil from swim club Vallirana. Italian swimmer Federico Tamborrino was another second behind.
Starting at La Fosca beach, the 9.5km swim followed an out-and-back route mainly parallel to the coast and circling a couple of small islands. In total, 139 swimmers finished the wetsuit optional race in times ranging from 1:48:24 to 4:16:05.
In addition the event featured a 4.5km Half-Oceanman distance and a non-competitive 2km swim.
Next stop on the Oceanman swim circuit is Lake Orta in Italy on 20 June, with a challenging 14km swim as well as a 4.5 and 1.3km swim.
