Outdoor Swimmer x Budgy Smuggler

As the sale of our limited edition Outdoor Swimmer x Budgy Smuggler swimsuit and trunks closes this weekend, we ask the team about their impressions of wearing and swimming in these stylish and comfortable togs.

Last chance to buy Swim Wild & Free Budgy Smugglers

It was only last week that the Outdoor Swimmer team gathered at Cleveland Pools in Bath to discuss plans for 2024 and, well, just to catch up in person and have a dip in this beautifully restored lido. But first, there was the small matter of testing and modelling an exciting limited edition range of Outdoor Swimmer x Budgy Smuggler swimsuit and trunks. Here’s what the team thought of these comfy and versatile swimsuits and trunks, ready to brighten up your winter swims.

“Budgy Smugglers have long been a staple of my swim wardrobe – good quality trunks that can stand up to the rigours of open water swimming. They are also a bit cheeky! I love the eye-catching new Swim Wild & Free design in tasteful lilac and yellow. These trunks are built to last and going on past experience the colours won’t fade in the wash.”
Jonathan Cowie, Contributing Editor

“I was surprised and delighted by this swimsuit. I expected it to feel skimpy but it was actually incredibly comfortable, supportive and had a modest cut with a mid-rise leg. I also struggle to find swimsuits that are long enough in the body (I’m a size 16 and 5”10), and the fit of this suit was just right. The thick racer strap back allowed for a great degree of flexibility in the shoulders and good freedom of movement in the water. I rather liked the lilac and yellow design, too.”
Jo Tinsley, Gear Editor

“It takes a special kind of confidence or lack of concern about what other people think to carry off wearing Budgy Smugglers. If you can do it, you’re in for a swimming treat. Wearing Budgy Smugglers is about as close as you can come to swimming naked while staying on the right side of the law. The first time I wore mine, I had to check a couple of times that I still had them on. What’s more, the bold designs direct attention your way. Be sure to get the correct size. As they look so small, I thought I was being cautious in ordering one size larger than I normally wear, but they were too large around the waist and backside. I could feel the material flapping. Sized correctly, these fit like a second skin and it’s scarily liberating to swim in them.”
