Review: THEMAGIC5 Vector, £75
We tested the THEMAGIC5 Vector, the new generation custom-fit goggles by the world’s only custom swim goggle company. Here’s how we got on.
THEMAGIC5 Vector, £75
Pro: Incredibly comfortable and leak-free
Con: The high price
I was intrigued to try the next-generation Vector goggles by THEMAGIC5, the world’s only custom swim goggle company. Apparently, the brand has spent the past decade capturing millions of facial data points through its AI-powered scanning technology. The result: a single, millimetre-level adjustment to the geometry of their original goggles, one small change that promises improved fit, comfort and performance.
The process of creating the custom fit was simple: you download a smartphone app that performs a 3D scan of your face, which maps the contours of your eye sockets and nose bridge. Their AI then uses this to create custom-printed gaskets for a precise fit. The whole process takes less than a minute, and the goggles arrived under two weeks later.
I’ve been wearing these goggles for a couple of months now, in regular training sessions indoors. While I usually avoid low-profile goggle styles that sit inside the eye socket as I find them uncomfortable and liable to leak, the THEMAGIC5 goggles have a barely-there feel and a secure seal that hasn’t leaked once. Now that I’ve found a comfortable low-profile pair of goggles, I’m starting to really like the streamline look and feel.

For swimmers, leaks most often occur at the top of the gasket as water flows down the face. Most other goggles attempt to solve this by increasing pressure across the entire face, which can lead to discomfort and red marks. THEMAGIC5 collected and analysed millions of facial data points, mapping facial curvature at the millimetre level, then used this date to reengineer the nose bridge and implement a 8.7-degree rotation of the gaskets, reducing strap-induced tension and 15% of pressure on the face compared with their first-generation goggles.
The Blue Magic Mirror Gold lenses are bright and clear for indoor training sessions, and would work well outdoors, too, reducing glare and making the marker buoys easy to spot. They goggles also come with a robust, foam-formed and vented case that fits the goggles like a glove, plus Magic5 Anti-Fog spray. While they’re a touch more pricy than standard goggles, for the fit and durability, I would say they’re well worth the investment.
