Challenge Outdoor Swimmer this April with our Compete Impossible virtual events

Compete Impossible

To celebrate the reopening of outdoor pools and venues in England this month, we’ve teamed up with Compete Impossible, a new British all-in-one virtual athletic events App, to challenge you with two exciting virtual swims throughout April.

Swim a total of 10km in April – indoors or outside – and you will unlock a 10% discount code for entry to the Outdoor Swimmer Henley Swim Festival this July. You can upload your activity to the Compete Impossible app manually or by connecting to compatible Garmin, Polar or Apple wearables.

We have also set up an Outdoor Swimmer overall leaderboard, where you can compete in real-time against your friends and other athletes from around the world. The three swimmers who sit at the top of our overall leaderboard at the end of the month will each win an item of Outdoor Swimmer merchandise. Download the app here.

As the first on-demand virtual events app for swimming, running, walking and cycling, the Compete Impossible app enables users, wherever they are in the world, to compete with followers and members of the broader international sports community in a host of multidisciplinary events. Users can also build their own ‘pop-up challenges’ in seconds and invite friends to race or participate in long-term leagues.

To take part in our virtual challenges, download the Compete Impossible app for free and find us in the rewards marketplace branded ‘Outdoor Swimmer’ to join. Remember to share your progress with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter by using the hashtag #CompeteImpossible. Can you beat the Outdoor Swimmer team?

Founder Martin Lacey was inspired to create the platform after trying out traditional activity tracking apps and finding them lacking in rewards, competition and social connection. During the first global lockdown in April 2020, he was looking to set up a virtual race event with friends and discovered that none of the existing tracking apps had this functionality; nor did they offer exciting challenges. As an avid runner, cyclist and swimmer, Lacey wanted to incorporate accurate, shareable tracking with events, challenges, leagues, and rewards – all led by the users themselves.

Lacey explained: “Compete Impossible’s mission in the next few years is to encourage millions of athletes to build and participate in large-scale events all over the world. We want to be known as the best-in-class athletics app for users of any ability, helping them to stay active and achieve their goals. The app blends elements of HopIn, Zwift and Instagram to create a unique social platform, driven by our community.” Lacey stressed his commitment to ethical, sustainable partnerships, citing current agreements with brands including Garmin, ICIW, Donda Cycling, Freetrain, Bamboo Clothing, Zone3, U-Perform, Bio-Synergy and Scimitar.

With both public and private news feeds, and challenges aimed at athletes of all levels, Compete Impossible enables athletes from every corner of the globe to join the community, build their own athletic events, compete with others, and earn guaranteed rewards from independent sustainable retailers. Now available in the App Store and Google Play, the app has several exciting events lined up over the coming months, including the #YourOlympicGames.
