Cheers to Channel swimming! Brewery produces swimming-themed beer to raise money for charity

Two teams of Channel relay swimmers have teamed up with a brewery to produce a pair of swimming-themed beers to raise money for charity.

The swimmers, who all work in the licensing industry, have partnered with micro-brewery Another Beer. The York-based brewery has produced two craft beers to raise money for The Light Fund, a charitable organisation that raises money to fund worthwhile charity projects.

The two relay teams will go head-to-head to race across the Channel on the same tide next summer. With two exceptions the teams are made up of novice swimmers – many have had to learn to swim front crawl and in one case learn to swim from scratch. The beers – High Hops and Hoptimist – are named after their pilot boats High Hopes and Optimist. Hoptimist APA is described as “refreshing and hoppy with a smooth clean finish” while High Hops Pale Ale “packs a refreshing citrus punch.” Both brews will be available from December 2021, with 50% of the profits going straight to The Light Fund.

The two relay teams comprise Anne Bradford, Mark Kingston, Simon Gresswell, Mark Bezodis, Anna Hewitt, Stephen Gould, Ian Down, Kevin Langstaff, Katie Price, Jason Goonery, Terry Lamb, Rhys Fleming, Tasmyn Knight and Kate Worlock. We can’t wait to toast their success!
