Open water swimming venue Heron Lake under new management for 2016

Heron Lake, a popular open water swimming venue located just off junction 13 of the M25, will be operating under new management in 2016.

The lake will open its doors for the first swim of the season on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May under a new team headed up by Alan Ellis and Pete Gowans, who have combined backgrounds in open water swimming, triathlon, coaching, retailing and customer service.

“Having swum at Heron Lake for many years, we saw the opportunity to make it one of the finest open water swimming venues in the UK,” says Ellis. “Open water swimming is becoming more popular and we want to make Heron Lake a safe, fun, friendly environment for people to enjoy the benefits of this great sport.”

Ellis adds that the lake has seen a lot of improvements for the new season including enhanced safety with RLSS qualified staff, greater retailing choice (swim retailer Mailsports will have a mini-shop at every session) and the NOWCA lake management system.

In addition, SwimSmooth coaches Fiona Ford and Annie Oberlin-Harris will be offering one-to-one coaching, advanced video analysis and stroke correction techniques, group sessions, and weekly SwimSmooth squad training.  There are also beginners’ group sessions, the first of which will take place on Saturday 14 May.
