Take action against pollution
Sick of swimming in polluted water? Surfers Against Sewage’s new #DearJon campaign gives us an easy and effective way to take action. Add your voice now to help end sewage pollution.
Barely a week passes without another story about sewage pollution in our seas and rivers, while water company bosses take home big bonuses and bills rise. But we now have a unique opportunity to speak out, thanks to the campaign group Surfers Against Sewage.
What is the #DearJon campaign?
The government has asked Sir Jon Cunliffe (a.k.a. Jon) to lead a Commission on water reform in England and Wales. Right now, he’s gathering evidence – and that’s where we come in. Water bosses and lobbyists are already whispering in Jon’s ear, and SAS wants us to make sure he hears the public—not just industry spin.
Who is Sir Jon Cunliffe?
Sir Jon Cunliffe is the new Chair of the Independent Water Commission. Along with his team, who sit on the Commission, Jon holds the future of the water industry in England and Wales in his hands.
What is the Independent Water Commission and why should I care?
Set up last October following the #EndSewagePollution election campaign, the Independent Water Commission is responsible for delivering the government “practical and deliverable” recommendations on how to reform the water sector in England and Wales.
Surfers Against Sewage has described it as a ‘once in a generation chance’ to reform the water industry in England and Wales.
What is the Call for Evidence?
Sir Jon and his team will review evidence from across the board, including from the public. This is a critical step, and we will be feeding evidence and questions into this enquiry.
The public is also able to submit evidence. However, it is a beast of a process, and so Surfers Against Sewage is helping you make your voice heard. It’s running its #DearJon campaign until the Commission closes its call for evidence on 20th April.
