Winter swimming comes to the USA

With the winter swimming season in full swing in Europe, the United States is now getting in on the act. The inaugural United States Winter Swimming Championships will take place at Newport, Vermont on 21-22 February 2015. The championships are hosted by the United States Winter Swimming Association and Kingdom Games.
A 25-metre, two-lane pool will cut in the ice of Lake Memphremagog. Water temperature is expected to be around 0 degrees Celsius and air temperature between -18 and -4 degrees.
Swimmers from Pittsburgh, San Francisco, St Petersberg, Boston, New York, Vermont, Maryland, Chicago, Montana, Russia, Latvia and Finland have already registered to compete. Participants will compete in 25m breaststroke, 25m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle races.
The championships will also include a group plunge on 20 February to raise money for a local cancer charity.

I created Outdoor Swimmer in 2011 (initially as H2Open Magazine) as an outlet for my passion for swimming outdoors. I've been a swimmer and outdoor swimmer for as long as I remember. Swimming has made a huge difference to my life and I want to share its joys and benefits with as many people as possible.
