187,888 lakes to swim in

A new swimming holiday company has emerged to take advantage of Finland’s almost countless swimming opportunities. As well as 187,888 lakes, the country also boasts the world’s largest archipelago and the Baltic Sea. The company Swimming Holidays in Finland creates holidays for open water, winter and wild swimmers.
The first holidays for the new company are scheduled to take place in summer 2015 starting at Lake Lohja, the biggest lake in South Coast Finland.
“Swimming through the white night of Midsummer, relaxing in an original Finnish sauna and having a Midsummer Eve’s Feast by bonfires will make a truly memorable holiday,” says Päivi Pälvimäki, founder of the service and an open water and winter swimming enthusiast. “The focus on holidays is open water swimming, but with different thematic twists, like The Raw Swimmer, a holiday with living raw food meals designed especially for swimmers.”
In 2016 Swimming Holidays in Finland plans to expand to other big lake areas in Finland and also organise a winter swimming camp and an exclusive Baltic Sea swimming experience.
Visitors will also get to swim with Finnish marathon swimmer pioneer and osteopath Tuomas Kaario, English Channel and Gulf of Finland swimmer, who is happy to share his expertise in swimming physiology.

I created Outdoor Swimmer in 2011 (initially as H2Open Magazine) as an outlet for my passion for swimming outdoors. I've been a swimmer and outdoor swimmer for as long as I remember. Swimming has made a huge difference to my life and I want to share its joys and benefits with as many people as possible.
