Swim across Britain with SwimTrek
Open water swimming holiday company SwimTrek has launched a new swimming expedition that will follow Scotland’s Great Glen from Fort William to Inverness.
The two towns (the largest in the Highlands) are connected by the famous Caledonian Canal that passes through Lochs of Lochy and Oich as well as the daunting but dramatic Loch Ness.
Swimmers will cover around 10km per day for 10 days, broken down into individual swims of 2.5 to 5km. There are also four walks of 3 to 10km alongside the narrow canal sections where swimming is not permitted and to visit significant landmarks.
Accommodation for the trip is aboard the Lady of Avenel, a 102ft Brigantine square rigger ship (pictured).
The group size is limited to 12 people and the start date is 11 July 2016.
