Swim at sunrise on World Bathing Day

Next Monday, June 22, is World Bathing Day and the Bathe the World Foundation is asking people across the globe to plunge in and raise awareness of the importance of water in our daily lives.

A bucket of water for everybody, every day, that is the vision of the Bathe the World Foundation. The charity aims to expand the conversation about access to water for hygiene, health, dignity, comfort, beauty and joy. By supporting a worldwide event the foundation hopes a day dedicated bathing will highlight the vital importance of humanity’s relationship with water. Last year 23 countries took part and 650,000 people connected through social media to celebrate.

Despite the challenge presented by Covid-19 bathing enthusiasts can still get involved this year. If you have access to a favourite swimming spot, head for a dip at sunrise and share your photo on Instagram with the hashtag #worldbathingday. If you are restricted in any way you can post your favourite ever swim instead using the same hashtag. “Water is sacred so we also ask that all participants respect the communities, cultures and ecosystems which make their favourite bathing spot special and unique,” says Matt Sykes World Bathing Day Ambassador. “In 2020, more than ever people are looking for ways to stay connected. Water links all people, cultures and ecosystems. So, despite the pandemic it’s a pleasure to invite you and your community to be part of this years’ activities.”
