Tri Ferris to award new trophy at Big Cotswold Swim

Event company Tri Ferris Promotions is to award a new trophy in memory of former local swimmer Glenys France, who died earlier this year.

Lorraine Ferris, Race Organiser with Tri Ferris promotions says: “Glenys was a true ambassador to swimming and played a huge part in helping to promote the sport from local to county, national, European and World Championship events.”

The new trophy to be awarded in her name (The Glenys France Memorial Team Trophy) will be presented annually at the Tri Ferris Big Cotswold Swim, which takes place in September each year. It will be awarded to the winning team (of five, male or female) in the one-mile race. The trophy has been sponsored by another local swimmer, John Tanner of Cats Solutions.

“Whether it be in the pool or in open water, Glenys delivered a real can do approach throughout her swimming both in training and in competing,” says Lorraine. “One of the highlights of her swimming career came in 2013 when she completed the Dart 10K open water race in an astonishing 3 hour 11 minutes. Not too bad when you consider she was 69 years old at the time!”

This year’s race takes place on 17 September.
