New Poole Ocean Swim to include “how far can you swim in 90 minutes challenge?”

John Lunt has announced a new early season ocean swim at Poole, in Dorset, on 21 May. The swim takes place on the Blue Flag beach of Sandbanks, with views onto Old Harry Rocks and the Purbeck Hills, and with water safety cover provided by the Poole Life Guards (who also organise the Brownsea Island Swim).

Distances range from 500m up to 2km along with a new 90-minute challenge. Instead of trying to cover a fixed distance, the aim in this case is to see how far you can swim within the time limit.

Lunt, who was the founder and former owner of Human Race events and is now CEO of BSpoke Events, says he expects around 500 swimmers to take part.

Wetsuits are optional and non-wetsuit swimmers are encouraged. Wetsuit hire will be available through Zone 3. Other event sponsors include Kitbrix and Swans. The water temperature is anticipated to be around 12 degrees Celsius.
