Could you swim 10km this August for the ocean?

Challenge yourself to swim 10km this August as part of our collaboration with Climate Games and you could help support the planting of one million climate-resilient corals by 2025 to restore dying reefs

This August, the world’s fastest open water swimmers will be racing over 10km in the Seine, in Paris. The marathon swim is 10km, and will take around two hours. How long will it take you?

This month, Climate Games is challenging you to swim the marathon distance in as many sessions as you likeIf you think you can do 10km in one go, we’re running a separate challenge for that, with greater impact!

In taking part in this virtual swimming challenge, you will be supporting Coral Gardners who set a mission to support the planting of one million climate-resilient corals by 2025 to restore dying reefs. The project involves research, restoration and education programs.

The restoration programmes cover scientific surveys to assess the state and cause of coral degradation, identifying donors sites of healthy corals to revive damaged areas, empowering islanders to protect and preserve their coral and setting up coral nurseries to preserve the reef and, thus, island livelihoods. The aim is for scalable processes which can be adopted around the world by local communities to protect their own coral reefs from tried and tested methodologies.

How ClimateGames works

Outdoor Swimmer magazine subscribers can join our subscriber-only events on the Climategames app and log each of their swims. On completion of the challenge, the participant will receive confirmation that their swim efforts have contributed to the projects we support. It’s a simple way for us to work together to help reduce our impact on the environment.

To take part, you need to download the ClimateGames app onto your phone. You can then either record your swims manually or allow the app to connect to your sports watch and update automatically.
