Club of the Month – Brockwell Icicles
The Brockwell Icicles are an informal group of friends who share a love of winter swimming at Brockwell Lido in Herne Hill, south London. We’ve been going (and growing) since the lido reopened for winters in 2012 – yes, that winter where snow was still falling in April. After joyful bracing dips in the beautiful 50m pool, we enjoy coffee, cake and chats at The Lido Cafe. In spring, a friendly couple of mallard ducks join us (for swims, not coffee). Occasionally we sally forth on days out to new swimming spots – this year Guildford lido and the beautiful River Dee in Chester – as well as going on weekend jaunts to places such as Durdle Dor, Bude Sea Pool in Cornwall and the lochs of Scotland.

Jonathan Cowie is our former editor. He is a year-round skins swimmer with a particular love of very cold water. He has competed in ice swimming competitions around the world. He is a qualified open water coach with a particular love of introducing new swimmers to the open water.
