Brighten up your spring swims

Spring is such an exciting time for wild swimmers. The promise of temperatures rising week by week, and longer, brighter spells of sunshine. Hopefully.
Yep, admit it, sometimes spring in the UK can be a bit of a damp squib. Fess up – how many wild swims have you cancelled because of that sudden rain shower or ominous cloud in the distance?
So how about we make this spring the turning point for us no longer being fair-weather wild swimmers, and head out even on the grimmest of days*? You never know, perhaps a dash of vibrant and colourful swimwear can help brighten that training session or wild dip?
On an overcast and blustery day in March, Outdoor Swimmer founder Simon and digital editor Abi tested out Sumarpo’s new range of Wave Swimwear in the Victorian swimming pond at Combe House in Somerset. The air was a fresh 8°, while the water was barely into double figures, but the bright vibes of their swimsuits helped them imagine more tropical climes as they approached the water. Almost.
Simon tried Sumarpo’s Wave Jammers while Abi tried the Wave Lattice Tie Swimsuit. Both are made from 100% chlorine proof fabric that’s made with recycled plastic bottles. This material is quick-drying, retains its shape and feels soft to touch.

Abi’s thoughts on the Wave Swimsuit: “It’s beachwear and training wear”
I have had so many compliments about this swimsuit since wearing it to the pool and my local lake this spring. The bright and colourful print is certainly eye-catching (ideal for being spotted in open water), and the lattice tie at the back is gorgeous – I’d happily wear this swimwear on the beach on holiday.
As well as looking pretty, the lattice of the straps provides good support and allows for plenty of arm movement – plus they are adjustable, which is always a bonus. The medium leg cut allows an unrestricted kick, and shows just enough cheeky cheek if you’re in the mood for it!
I love the super-soft feel of the chlorine-proof fabric, which dries really quickly too. This swimsuit will definitely be in my holiday beach bag as well as my training kit bag.

Simon’s thoughts on the Wave Jammers: “They feel fast in the water”
“Are those racing jammers?”
No, I explained to the person who asked me, the first time I tested the Sumarpo Wave Swim Jammer.
However, while these are regular training jammers, I did feel sleek and fast through the water. The fit is firm and streamlined, but not compressive. I also liked the generous length drawstring, the elasticated waist band and the double layered fabric front panel.
Overall, these are well-made and ideal or both pool training sessions or open water swims. I’ve been wearing for a few weeks now without any signs of wear.
