Dryrobe® Pure: a new innovation in robe lining

Dryrobe brings our new Dryrobe® Pure – the world’s first 100% industrially compostable inner pile fabric ever used in an outdoor application, which doesn’t shed microplastics

While the sherpa fabric you often find on the inside of changing robes was named after the Sherpa people of Nepal as it mimics natural sheepskin, most robe manufacturers actually use polyester as it’s lightweight, fast-drying and wicks water away from the skin. But even if it’s sourced from post-consumer plastic waste, recycled polyester still sheds microplastics when you wear it and wash it.

So we were excited to read about Dryrobe® Pure, the world’s first 100% industrially compostable inner pile fabric ever used in an outdoor application, which doesn’t shed any microplastics as it’s built from a high-performance, plant- and natural-fibre blend. The material uses BIOSherpa™ technology, a high-performance alternative to petroleum-based pile derived from fermented non-GMO corn (98%), with the remaining 2% made up of natural minerals.

While Dryrobe® Pure is very much a Version 1.0 – the robes are priced at £650 and made to order – it stands as compelling proof that renewably sourced materials can perform in real-world conditions, representing the beginning of what’s possible for the future of outdoor apparel. One hundred per cent of the profit from sales of Dryrobe® Pure will be reinvested into research and development, accelerating the brand’s mission to reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based materials.
“Dryrobe® Pure is without a doubt the most ambitious project we’ve ever undertaken,” says

Dryrobe® founder Gideon Bright. “For a long time, creating something like this felt out of reach. It’s a huge challenge to balance new material science with the durability people need. While it would have been easier to stick with standard fabrics, we wanted to see if we could finally build the Dryrobe® we’ve always imagined – one made from organic, renewable sources without using fossil fuels.”

Each Dryrobe® PURE is made to order, available exclusively in navy and costs £650 with an expected delivery time of approximately five months. Find out more.
