Copenhagen to host LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup race

Copenhagen will further boost its credentials as a welcoming city for open water swimmers by hosting the fifth round of the 10km European Open Water Swimming Cup around the heart of the capital.

The elite event will take place alongside the popular mass participation 2km swim along the same route – the Round Christiansborg swim.

The Round Christiansborg swim started in 2006 and has now grown to more than 3000 swimmers. In 2009 the canal circuit was used for a FINA World Cup event and the ambition is for the event to become a gigantic mass participation celebration of open water swimming.
The organisers hope the swim helps demonstrate Copenhagen’s green credentials where the water in the harbour is clean enough to swim in. The city also has four outdoor pools in the inner city and thousands of Danes and visitors swim in the city’s waters each year. They also hope that swimmers from outside of the country will see the swim as an opportunity to visit Copenhagen and combine their passion for swimming with a vacation.
