Fifth year for Uswim Openwater New Year’s Day Charity Swim

Uswim Openwater say they’re expecting more than 200 participants at next year’s New Year’s Day swim, scheduled for 11:00 on 1 Jan 2016 and taking place in Salford Quays.

The swim costs £20 to enter on the day or £15 in advance, and under 16s can swim for free. The money raised will be donated to Christie’s Teenage Young Adults Unit, which provides care to teenagers and young adults from around the North West. The organisers will also be collecting food on the day for the Salford Central Foodbank, which relies on food donations to feed local people in crisis.
The water temperature is anticipated to be around 6 degrees. Wetsuits and funky hats are permitted but not compulsory, although there is a funky hat competition. Swimmers can plunge in for a refreshing dip, tackle the 100m iceberg course or stay in as long as they feel comfortable.
