Meet our November issue cover stars!

This month’s cover stars are outdoor swimming sisters-in-law Diane Neaves and Shirley O’Gorman from County Cork, Ireland. The cover shot was taken by fellow swimmer Siobhan Russell. We caught up with Shirley to find out a bit about her swimming background and how she feels about being a cover model!

How does it feel to be Outdoor Swimmer’s cover star?

Delighted and very happy Siobhan’s shot was chosen as she is extremely talented photographer – very relaxed and she brings out the best moments with her shots!

Where was the cover shot taken?

Just before we took the plunge into the water at Crosshaven Triathlon. The excitement and nerves are showing on my face!

How long have you been open water swimming and how did you get into it?

I have always enjoyed swimming but only took to the open water last year encouraged by Diane. We often train together and take part in many road races and Quest Adventure Races, but this was my very first triathlon.

What’s your favourite swim spot?

I love swimming in my local town Aghada in East Cork – we jump in off the pier there and there are lots of swimmers and various distances marked out by buoys to train with! I enjoy the odd plunge in beautiful Myrtleville too!

What swims are on your swimming bucket list?

I hope to do the Lee Swim in 2018, Sandycove in Kinsale and many more triathlons.
