Swim the Channel from the comfort of your local pool

As water temperatures drop and the amount of time you can spend swimming outdoors decreases, the Aspire Channel Swim is the prefect way to top up your training distances and raise money for charity at the same time.

Now in its 16th year, Aspire hopes the 2015 Channel Swim will raise over £500,000 to help people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury.
The concept is simple: swim the English Channel from the comfort of your local leisure centre. You can do it all in one go (if you really want to) or break down the challenge into more manageable chunks – you have until 7 December to complete the 22-mile distance.
Swimmers have the flexibility to choose how many lengths to swim during each session so you could, for example, challenge yourself to complete the distance in four weeks or complete the challenge twice – just like Angela Harrison did in 2014: “Part way through the swim, I set myself an extra challenge – to match the time I used to swim in my 20s, most notably two miles in an hour. I smashed this last week, setting a PB of sub 58 minutes for 2 miles – I’m now 49 years old!”

I created Outdoor Swimmer in 2011 (initially as H2Open Magazine) as an outlet for my passion for swimming outdoors. I've been a swimmer and outdoor swimmer for as long as I remember. Swimming has made a huge difference to my life and I want to share its joys and benefits with as many people as possible. I am also the author of Swim Wild & Free: A Practical Guide to Swimming Outdoors 365 a Year and I provide one-to-one support to swimmers through Swim Mentoring.
