SwimTrek team up with Elon Musk for new tour to the Sea of Tranquillity
Swim holiday pioneers SwimTrek are joining forces with technology entrepreneur Elon Musk for their latest adventure, the company announced today. The new and exclusive trip will take in the Sea of Tranquillity, the Sea of Serenity and, conditions permitting, the Sea of Islands.
Simon Murie, SwimTrek’s founder, says he’s “over the moon” about the tie up with Elon Musk and the prospects for the adventure.
“Elon is a visionary partner to work with,” he says. “He’s agreed to put the full resources of SpaceX behind this trip. This will be like nothing on earth.”
The trip is expected to achieve several firsts. Nobody has swum in these seas before, despite them being known about for many years. They are remote, incredibly difficult to access, and swimmers will need to wear specialist equipment.
“When I first suggested this trip, people said it was ‘lunacy’,” says Murie. “But this shows what you can achieve if you shoot for the stars.”
SwimTrek remains coy about the price tag for the trip but says the experience will be worth every penny and will eclipse anything the company has done before.
The first trip is expected to blast off exactly a year from today, on 1 April 2022.
