Beyond the Blue
“I’m alive!” The exclamation of joy from every swimmer who joins Beyond the Blue as they make their first foray into the sea at Shore Road, Poole, Dorset. The brainchild of Sally Bird, Beyond the Blue was founded in October 2013. From a core group of three, this open water swimming group now has over 500 members worldwide, including Australia and the US. Those who join are inspired by the tangible joy and friendship evident by photos on the group’s Facebook page. All ages and abilities are encouraged – from children to pensioners; from those who swim for leisure, through to endurance and ice swimmers. What binds everyone is the ability to laugh, have fun and be part of a supportive swimming community.

Jonathan Cowie
Jonathan is a year-round skins swimmer with a particular love of very cold water. He has competed in ice swimming competitions around the world. He is a qualified open water coach with a particular love of introducing new swimmers to the open water.
