Outdoor Swimmer is an independent magazine produced by swimmers for swimmers. We don’t have the heft of a big publishing company behind us and are fiercely proud that we are able to produce a magazine that every month (hopefully) inspires and motivates your swimming adventures as much as it does our own.
Here’s a sneak preview of what you can find between its pages…
Wild days and wild swims in the Lake District with Gilly McArthur, swimming to raise awareness of the importance of exercise for mental health.
“The most unbelievable, life-affirming, existential sense of completely being there, the mental world and physical world are one.” Tom Kearney, Pond swimmer. Meet the characters of the film The Ponds, an unapologetic serenade to outdoor swimming and the beauty of Hampstead Heath.
Isn’t a marathon swim hard enough without towing trees, boats full of people, or swimming while shackled?
Recovery cake… a big wedge of tasty loveliness to scoff straight after swimming. Yes, you read it right! Cake!
Preparing psychologically as well as physically for swimming long distances can help prevent fear of fatigue.
Grrrr. Swimming in the wake of a grizzly bear.
Plan your summer trips around swims – from Lake Geneva to Dubai.
What’s in our kit bag this month?
This week’s photo of the week is by Simon Willis of his wife Liz before one of their swims in Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan, Scotland.
In each issue of the magazine we publish a selection of your images in our Reader Photo Contest. To be in with a chance of having your photo featured in the magazine and winning outdoor swimming kit enter your best pics now.
